Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a primary health care profession that can aid in the recovery from injury to muscle, joints, and bones. A detailed assessment will help determine the cause and type of injury, and help to create an individualized treatment plan that suits the goals of the individual. Postural imbalances, chronic health conditions, and acute injuries from sports, the workplace, and motor-vehicle accidents are all common causes of injury that can be treated by a physiotherapist. Significant evidence suggests that physiotherapy can provide benefit for a wide range of conditions including tendonitis, bursitis, neck/back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, rotator cuff injury, arthritis and more.
Manual Therapy
Manual Therapy involves the gentle mobilization of the joints of the body to improve joint health, increased range of motion and reduce pain. Mobilization therapy does NOT involve high-velocity movements intended to "crack" a joint.
Soft Tissue Release/IASTM
Soft tissue release techniques help to relax strained muscles, increase blood flow to injured tissue, and reduce pain. Techniques can be performed using the hands, by performing tissue distraction or "cupping" therapy, and with specialized massage tools (IASTM). Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) uses specially designed instruments to provide a mobilizing effect to scar tissue and myofascial adhesions along with increasing blood flow to the surrounding tissue.
Acupuncture & Dry Needling
Acupuncture is the insertion of a needle into meridian based points on the body, while dry needling is used to address “trigger points” in a muscle.
The same single-use needles are used in both techniques, but a major difference is that in acupuncture the needles are left in place for a period of time, while in dry needling a single needle is used at a time and manipulated by hand within the target tissue.
Electroacupuncture is another service that is available. Electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture where a small electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. This practice can augment the use of regular acupuncture and is particularly good for treating pain or relaxing tight muscles.
Therapeutic Taping
Taping can involve the use of either a kinesiotape (elastic) or leukotape (a more firm tape) in order to create a desired effect. Taping can help to support strained muscles and joints, provide proprioceptive (body awareness) feedback, and help to relieve pain and/or swelling. Therapeutic taping can be included as part of the treatment plan and is also available as a stand-alone service for clients who have undergone a full physiotherapy assessment.
Progressive Exercise Programs
AMP Physiotherapy has a wide range of exercise tools to be used in clinic to educate and progress our client's progress. Improving balance, posture, flexibility, and strength are all important parts of recovery from a variety of injuries and chronic musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Each client will also be provided with a home program when appropriate in order to encourage some self-management on the days in between treatment sessions. Our bodies crave a variety of movements, and when moved in the right way, this can have a significant impact on recovery from injury. The exercise programs provided are designed to help you get Active, improve your Movement, and optimize your Performance in whatever goal you may have.
Modalities
Although modalities are typically not the focus of the treatment plans provided, they can play a significant role in improving symptoms and increasing the effect of the other treatment techniques performed during your treatment sessions. A variety of electrotherapies including interferential current, TENS, Russian stimulation, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and electroacupuncture are all available. Other available modalities include therapeutic ultrasound, shockwave, as well as heat and cryotherapy, including access to a cold-immersion tub.
