Derek Weiss, PT
Owner/ Registered Physiotherapist

M.Sc.PT., B.P.H.E. (Hons), FMT, FRCms

Born and raised in Sudbury, Derek Weiss is a Registered Physiotherapist who has graduated from Queen’s University with a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy. Before this, Derek obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Laurentian University. A big proponent of Health, Safety, and Community, Derek is also a Volunteer Firefighter in the Lively District.

My goal is to help my clients recover from their injury or chronic concern as quickly as possible, all while maintaining their ability to participate in the activities or sports they love at an appropriate level. I believe that when recovering from an injury, activity modification and proper scaling, when safe to do so,  is more important than telling you to avoid activities completely. I am also a firm believer that building up strength and capacity of movement in our bodies is a key aspect of a long, healthy, and active life. To do this, I hope to encourage my clients to get comfortable with making strength training and conditioning a part of their daily lives. This is why I am thrilled to be able to operate my clinical sessions out of The Basement Fitness gym facility. Our daily lives keep trending towards more sedentary behaviours, which has been well proven to contribute to negative health outcomes, including chronic musculoskeletal pain syndromes. Let’s work together and fight back against inactivity!”

You will find Derek not only “Talking the Talk” but also “Walking the Walk” with his own health and fitness journey training multiple days per week at The Basement Fitness. Derek is also continuously working on expanding his knowledge and service level delivery through continuing education in the realm of Physiotherapy, Nutrition, and Strength and Conditioning.

Derek is a member in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, the Ontario Physiotherapy Association and the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
